A covered event
Wind or hail damage can fall within a policy’s covered causes of loss. The insurer evaluates the cause, policy terms, and claimed work. The presence of an older roof does not create coverage for ordinary deterioration.

An inspection can explain roof damage and the work needed. Your insurer decides whether that work is covered and how the policy pays. Keeping those questions separate makes the claim conversation clearer.

Missouri’s homeowners insurance FAQs explain the distinction between roof damage and wear.
Wind or hail damage can fall within a policy’s covered causes of loss. The insurer evaluates the cause, policy terms, and claimed work. The presence of an older roof does not create coverage for ordinary deterioration.
Ordinary wear and lack of maintenance are different from sudden covered damage. A replacement can be necessary for roof performance without being payable as a claim.
Actual cash value accounts for depreciation. Replacement cost coverage can pay the covered repair or replacement cost without that deduction after applicable requirements are met. A policy can still have a roof-specific endorsement or limit even when the home otherwise has replacement cost coverage.
Your deductible is the part of the covered loss you are responsible for. It can be a fixed amount or calculated differently for a particular peril. The policy, claim handling, and payment conditions control the result.

The insurer needs the event and damage information, and the policy can impose duties and deadlines. Photos already available, repair records, and the inspection findings can help explain the claim.
Temporary protection and necessary emergency measures are distinct from authorizing the full permanent job. Keep related receipts. Do not climb onto the roof to produce evidence.
The roof work and insurer’s covered scope can differ. Coverage questions go to the insurer; roof findings and work details belong with the roofing assessment. No contractor can promise claim approval.

Request a free roof inspection to understand the damage and useful work options. Coverage remains a separate insurer decision.
